#7 Softball Sweeps Oregon Ducks in Double-Header

May 12, 2006

- The #7 Sun Devil Softball team set a new RBI season record and tied the all-time wins record on the day Friday as they swept the Oregon Ducks in a double-header with ASU taking the first game 2-1 and the second of the series 4-3. The Sun Devils advance to 46-13 on the season and an even 10-10 in conference play with falling to 24-28 and 4-16 in the Pac-10.

The first game was a continuation of a rain-halted game from March 31 in which had the Sun Devils up 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth with two Ducks on-base and one out. Desiree Serrano came out to strike out Ann Marie Topps and force Beth Boskovich to ground out with the bases loaded to end the inning unscathed, where the Devils went on to hold their lead and take the first game 2-1 with Serrano taking her 16th win of the season with nine strikeouts.

In the second game, the Sun Devils came out red-hot on offense with a long-ball from Kaitlin Cochran in the first brought in Jessica Mapes and another home run over right field in the second from Kristen Miller brought in two more as the Devils took a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Katie Burkhart struck out 11 on the night as the Ducks were able to rally back in the fifth inning grabbing two runs and added another and threatened more in the seventh before Burkhart took control with a ground out and fanning two more giving the Devils a 4-3 win, their 46th of the season, which ties them for the all-time wins record with the 2002 team.

The Sun Devils will wrap up their season and honor the 2006 senior class tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Oregon Ducks in the final game of the regular season at 1 p.m. at Farrington Stadium in
