- The No. 9 Sun Devil Softball team split the weekend against their in-state rival with a 3-0 loss to the No.4 Arizona Wildcats (32-7, 3-4 Pac-10) Saturday night after a record-setting weekend with two sold out games at Farrington Stadium and a 4-2 defeat of the `Cats on Friday. The Sun Devils now stand at 39-6 overall and an even 3-3 in conference play.
The Sun Devils were unable to get any offense rolling, and UA took the opportunity with the first `Cat run coming home in the second inning with the bases loaded and a hit batter bringing one in to score for UA.
The Sun Devils only put three hits up on the board as Arizona struck again in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left center from pitcher Taryne Mowatt and another run being brought home after Callista Balko was plated on a single from Autumn Champion, as UA pushed their lead to 3-0.
The Sun Devils shut down the `Cats for the rest of the game, but with their offense only putting three hits up and UA's Taryne Mowatt fanning 11 Devils on the night to shut out the Devils, only the second time a team has done so this season.
It was still a banner weekend for the Sun Devils as for the first time in Sun Devil softball history the Devils had two-games completely sold out, and their Friday night win was their first win over UA since 2002 when the two met at the Kia Klassic, and the first home win against the `Cats since 2000.
The Sun Devils now take to the road as they set to face the #5 Cal Bears and #7 Stanford Cardinal next weekend in .
