Women's Swimming Travels To Long Beach, Calif. For Pac-10s

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Women's swimming hits the water Wednesday in Long Beach, Calif. for the Pac-10 Championships which will take place Feb. 22-25. Men's and women's diving will compete in Federal Way, Wash. for the Pac-10 Championships Feb. 23-25.

Last season as a freshman, Caitlin Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) won the 100-yard butterfly Pac-10 championship by touching the wall in 52.64. At the Pac-10s in 2005, Andrew also finished third in the 100-yard backstroke. Heidi Schmidt (Visalia, Calif.) finished third for the Sun Devils at the Pac-10 championships in the 100-yard breaststroke. The women's team finished sixth overall at the Pac-10s last season.

In diving, senior Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland), a six-time Pac-10 champion, looks to defend his one-meter and three-meter Pac-10 titles for the men's team. At the Pac-10s last season, Puhakka recorded a school record for the highest score in a one-meter diving championship with a 421.05. He also recorded a 611.90 in the three-meter event to capture the title.

The men's swimming team will compete in the Pac-10 championships March 1-4 in Federal Way, Wash.
