After Friday's day two of action at the 2006 Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, Arizona State University's men's team (188 points) and women's team (187 point) both stand in sixth place with one day of competition remaining.
Friday's finals round action featured ASU swimmers achieving 11 NCAA qualifying or national consideration times, highlighted by an second-place finish for the men in the 800 free relay and three NCAA `B' cut times swam by the women.
ASU's men's 800 free relay featured four of its most accomplished swimmers, and the team consisting of juniors CJ Nuess and Lucas Azevedo, and sophomores Sean Boyle and Gal Nevo finished as the runner-up in the event, finishing with a national consideration time of 6:39.09.
Nuess added the the Sun Devils' overall score with a fourth-place finish in the 400 IM finals, touching in an NCAA `B' qualifying time of 3:49.89. Nevo also achieved a `B' cut time in the finals of that event, completing in 3:52.98.
Boyle added a third NCAA `B' cut time in the 200 free (1:37.83), while Azevedo (200 free) and freshman Ante Cvitkovic (100 back) achieved national consideration times.
For the women, junior Caitlin Andrew and freshman Sara McDaniel contributed greatly both in individual events and in relays.
Andrew finished the finals round of the 100 back in 55.10, worthy of NCAA `B' consideration, and McDaniel earned the same recognition in the 100 breast, completing the finals round of the event in 1:02.73.
Freshman Mirela Kardasevic, McDaniel, Andrew and sophomore Jen Beckberger comprised the 200 medley relay, which finished in 1:42.28, and NCAA `B' cut time.
The Sun Devil women's day two finals round effort featured national consideration times by Beckberger (200 free), (100 breast) and the team of Andrew, Beckberger, junior Ellis Schieman and junior Lindsey Brown (800 free relay).
The 2006 Texas Invitational will come to a close Saturday, Dec. 2, with the preliminary rounds being held at 10 a.m. CST and the finals round concluding the event beginning at 6 p.m. CST.
