Texas Invitational Day Two Preliminaries Recap; Nuess Takes First in 400 IM

AUSTIN, Texas -

swimming and diving completed the preliminary round of day two at the Texas Invitational in early Friday afternoon. The afternoon's events included the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back for the men and women.  

Leading the way for the Sun Devils was junior CJ Nuess, who took first place in the preliminary round of the 400 IM, recording an NCAA `B' qualifying time of 3:50.88, the top time in that event by a Sun Devil this season.

Sophomore Sean Boyle earned a `B' qualifying time as well, finishing the 200 free in 1:37.83, a new personal best for Boyle and the fastest 200 free time by a Sun Devil this season.  Junior Lucas Azevedo followed shortly behind Boyle, achieving a national consideration time in 200 free.

Freshman Ante Cvitkovic was ASU's top backstroke swimmer in the preliminaries, recording a national consideration time in the 100 back.

For the women, junior Caitlin Andrew followed her impressive first day with a solid second, earning an NCAA `B' cut time in the 100 back, touching in 54.79.  

Freshman Sara McDaniel added to the contributions during the preliminary round, recording a `B' standard time, setting a personal record with a finish of 1:02.87 in the 100 breast.

ASU also received national consideration efforts by sophomore Jen Beckberger in the 200 free and senior in the 100 breast.

Friday's finals round will begin at 6 p.m. CST, and action will then continue with Saturday's preliminary rounds at 10 a.m. CST and the Texas Invitational will conclude with Saturday's finals round, starting at 6 p.m. CST.
