's women's swimming and diving team gained its second team victory of the season Friday night, defeating the No. 25 Purdue Boilermakers 160-138. ASU's No. 19 men's team (1-1) were upset by No. 23 Purdue, 181-118 in
Once again led by the All-America efforts of junior Caitlin Andrew, the Sun Devil women gained victories in 11 events on the day.
Andrew touched first in the 50 free (23.33) and the 100 fly (54.03), recording NCAA "B" qualifying times in both events.
Sophomore Jen Beckberger also earned an NCAA "B" qualifying time in the 200 free, winning the event with a time of 1:50.03.
Freshman Ashley Evans posted top times in the 200 breast (2:18.72) and the 400 IM (4:26.59), while junior Sarah Fischer tacked on a victories in 1000 free (10:11.69) and a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:00.60), touching barely behind teammate junior Ellis Schieman (5:00.54).
ASU solidified its team victory by winning both relay events on the day, including the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Senior Carissa Abe rounded out the individual victories for the women, placing first in the 100 back (57.98).
The Sun Devil men were led by the efforts of junior Lucas Azevedo, earning a pair of wins in the 500 free (4:38.51) and the 200 free (1:40.03).
Junior Steve Neuwart also gained two victories on the day, touching first in the 50 free (20.69) and the 100 free (45.78).
Former NCAA qualifiers sophomore Gal Nevo and junior CJ Nuess also recorded individual victories against the Boilermakers, as Nevo won the 1000 free (9:32.99) and Nuess finished with the top 200 IM time of the day (1:52.60).
ASU recorded a series of second-place scoring finishes on the day, as sophomore Sean Boyle was the runner-up in the 200 free, as were freshman Ante Cvitkovic in the 100 back and Lucas Azevedo in the 200 fly.
Redshirt freshman diver Micky Benedetti once again had a solid performance for the Sun Devils, earning the top score in the 1m (349.57) and a second-place score in the 3m (355.58) diving events.
