PLEASANTON, Calif. - With four players in the top 15, the fifth-ranked Arizona State University women's golf team is tied for third place after two rounds of the 2005 Pac-10 Conference Championships, being held Monday-Wednesday at the par 72, 6,304-yard Ruby Hill Golf Club.
The Sun Devils shot a four-over 292 on Tuesday and are tied with Arizona for third place with a two-round total of 13-over 589. UCLA leads the tournament after two days with a total of three-over 579 and holds a seven-stroke lead over USC (586). ASU and Arizona are tied for third (589) and Washington State rounds out the top five (592).
Freshman Louise Stahle, the top-ranked player in the country, leads the Sun Devils and is in fourth place with a two-round total of four-under 140 (69-71). She trails tournament leader Kim Welch of Washington State by four strokes heading into Wednesday's final round. Welch carded a six-under 66 on Wednesday and leads the tournament with a total of eight-under 136 (70-66).
Sophomore Tiffany Tavee is tied for 11th at three-over 147 (73-74), while sophomore Alissa Kuczka (77-74) and senior Erin Tone (78-73) are both tied for 15th with two-round totals of 151. Kuczka carded a second-round 74 to move from 29th to 15th on Wednesday, while Tone climbed 18 spots - from 33rd to 15th - after shooting a one-over 73 in the second round. Rounding out the Sun Devil lineup is sophomore Charmaine Erasmus who stands in a tie for 31st with a two-day total of 155 (80-75).
The Pac-10 Championships wrap up on Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m., while the all-conference team will be announced at an awards ceremony following the conclusion of the event. ASU will tee off at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday and will play with UCLA and USC.
