Puhakka In First-Place Heading Into Three-Meter Finals at NCAAs

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Junior All-American Joona Puhakka leads the field after preliminary action on the three-meter springboard on the second day of competition at the 2005 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships held at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Arizona State men's swimming and diving team is in 15th-place going into Friday evening's finals.

Puhakka, who reclaimed the one-meter springboard NCAA title Thrusday evening, hit the boards earlier today in the preliminary competition on the three-meter, scoring a 205.85 to take the lead going into the finals. The reigning three-meter champion competes tonight for his second title in as many days and his fourth as a Sun Devil.

Also in action Friday for the Sun Devils was senior Emerson Ward in the 100 breaststroke, where he swam into 39th with a time of 56.29.

The finals for Friday's competition begin at 8 p.m. ET at the University Aquatic Center.
