Arizona State sophomore Ike Diogu has earned All-Pac-10 honors for the second time in his career, the league announced today. Diogu, a 2003-2004 Associated Press preseason All-American and a 2004 ESPN.com third-team All-American, was selected by the league's coaches.
The Garland, Texas, native averaged a league-leading 22.8 points and 36.9 minutes per game and also posted a league-best 17 20-point games. He set the Pac-10 record with 243 made free throws, eclipsing the 237 mark set by Oregon State's Mel Counts in 1963-64.
Diogu has scored in double digits in all 59 career games, the best active streak in the nation. He led ASU in scoring in 12 of the final 14 games. His 22.8 points per game is tied for the second-best mark in ASU history with Seabern Hill (1969-70). Eddie House is the ASU record holder at 23.0 points per game in 1999-2000.
Kevin Kruger was an honorable mention All-Freshman selection. In the final nine games of the year, Kruger averaged 12.4 points per game, second-best on the team, and was 27-of-59 (.458) from the three-point stripe in that time. He shot 35-of-44 (.795) from the free throw line, the fifth-best mark an Sun Devil freshman.
Diogu is just the fifth Sun Devil to earn All-Pac-10 honors multiple times, joining Eddie House (1999 and 2000), Jeremy Veal (1997 and 1998), Mario Bennett (1994 and 1995) and Fat Lever (1981 and 1982).
Stanford's Josh Childress was named Pac-10 Player of the Year. Others on the 10-man team included Stanford's Chris Hernandez, Oregon's Luke Jackson, Arizona's Channing Frye and Andre Iguodala, Oregon State's David Lucas, Washington's Nate Robinson, USC's Desmon Farmer and California's Leon Powe. Jackson and Farmer are the lone seniors, as eight All-Pac-10 players could return next year.
