INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Nick Brunelli, a former member of the Arizona State University swimming and diving team, finished seventh in the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle at the World Short Course Championships Friday night at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., qualifying him to compete in the final Saturday.
Brunelli, who won gold Thursday in the 400 freestyle relay, finished 4th in the first heat of the 50m freestyle semi-finals with a time of 21.92. He entered in the semi-finals following a qualifying time of 22.03, placing him sixth overall. Brunelli hits the water tomorrow evening for the chance at his second medal in as many events.
Senior Florencia Szigeti, competing for Argentina, clocked a time of 55.19 in the women's 100m freestyle semi-final Friday finishing 11th, missing the final by less than 3-tenths of a second. Szigeti returns to action Sunday competing in the 50m freestyle.
The World Short Course Championships will be contested through Monday, October 11.
