Softball Players Brun And Garcia Earn Academic All-District Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University softball players Kara Brun and Adriana Garcia were both selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VII Softball Team, announced Thursday. Arizona State was only one of two schools to have multiple players selected to the team. Brun and Garcia will now be eligible for Academic All-American honors.

Brun, a senior shortstop from Glendale, Arizona, makes her third appearance on the all-district team after earning Second-Team Academic All-American acclaim last year. Brun is also a three-time Academic All-Pac-10 selection and holds a 3.33 grade-point average in communications. In addition, Brun has started in every game during her four-year career (236) and is Arizona State's all-time leader in home runs (34), doubles (50) and RBIs (164).

Garcia, a senior catcher from Riverside, California, earns her first honor on the team. Garcia carries a 3.50 grade-point average in elementary education and is a two-time Maroon and Gold Scholar Athlete. Garcia is also having her best year on the field as well, starting all 50 games with a .296 average. She has slugged eight home runs and batted in 29 runs, while throwing out 14 runners and posting a .993 fielding percentage.
