TEMPE, Ariz. - Amy Hastings (Fr., Leavenworth, Kan.), a member of the Arizona State cross country and track and field programs, represented the United States Saturday at the World Junior Cross Country Championships held in Lausanne, Switzerland. Hastings placed 20th in the IAAF event and was the first American to cross the finish line at 22:34.
As a team, Hastings and the Americans placed fourth with 82 points while Ethiopia won the team title with a minuscule 14 points. Kenya took second at 22 points while Morraco placed third with 78 points.
"She had a great run today," Walt Drenth, ASU head cross country coach, said. "This is a tremendous accomplishment for her as she gets into her collegiate career."
Hastings led teammates Rebecca Walter (Michigan), Clara Horowitz (Duke), Julia Lucas (NC State), Angela Horman (Auburn) and Laura Hodgson (Washington) to fourth place as all six athletes finished the race within two minutes of each other.
Next up for the Sun Devils is a weekend trip to Los Angeles for the UCLA Invitational April 4-5.
