The Arizona State swimming and diving teams are in action this weekend with two meets. On Friday, the women head north to Flagstaff to face the NAU Lumberjacks at 3 p.m., while on Saturday the men's team will meet the women's team in Las Vegas, Nev., where the squads will take on the UNLV Rebels at 12 p.m.

ASU vs. NAU (women only)
ASU last matched up with NAU on October 25, of last year at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center with the Sun Devils coming away with the victory 228-70 after notching a win in every event. The two teams have competed annually since the 1992-93 season with ASU holding an 11-0 advantage in the series.
ASU vs. UNLV
ASU last saw UNLV also on October 25, of last year at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center and both the men's and women's Sun Devil squads came away with victories. The men won 216-82 after capturing 14 of 16 events while the women prevailed 189-108 after winning 11 of 16 events. The highlight of the meet was the debut of men's diver Joona Puhakka, who broke the school record in the 3-meter, 6-dive, with a 387.90.
ASU, Last Time In The Pool
The Arizona State Sun Devils opened their swimming and diving season on October 17, with a dual meet at Hawaii. Traveling with a reduced squad, the women came away victorious 190-110 while the men fell 163-132. Sophomore men's diver Joona Puhakka and junior women's diver Trisha Tumlinson both set school records at the meet.
Puhakka, the NCAA Champion on the 1-meter, broke his own school record on the 3-meter as he swept both diving events. His 390.70 on the 3-meter exceeded his previous mark of 387.90 that he set in his first meet as a Sun Devil last year against UNLV. He won the 1-meter with a score of 388.85, less than three points shy of his own school record in that event.
Tumlinson demolished her own school record in her victory on the 1-meter, recording a 326.35 to better her own mark of 300.25. She also took home the 3-meter win with a 280.35 as ASU finished in places one through four in both women's diving events.
In the swimming pool, the Sun Devil women came away with victories in nine events with Florencia Szigeti leading the way with three victories. Szigeti touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle (23.58), the 100 freestyle (50.95) and the 200 freestyle (1:50.32). Her 100 and 200 times are good for NCAA "B" time standards while her 50 time was two-hundredths of a second shy of a "B" standard.
The ASU men claimed victories in five events in the swimming pool, with Nick Brunelli capturing two of those. He touched the wall first in both the 100 freestyle (45.12) and the 200 freestyle (1:39.26) with his 200 time being just shy of a NCAA "B" time.
Up Next For The Sun Devils
The Sun Devils will be in action next when they open their home season for the 2003-04 campaign, when they host UCLA and USC at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on November 14-15. The UCLA meet on Friday is a women's event only and begins at 2 p.m. The action on Saturday will feature both the men's and women's squads and is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
