TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University softball player Kara Brun was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-American second team. Brun, a junior shortstop from Glendale, Arizona, carries a 3.42 overall grade-point average in communications. As well as in the classroom, Brun also excelled on the field as she set Arizona State single-season records for most home runs (10) and RBIs (52).
Brun, a two-time Academic All-Region VIII selection, played in 65 of ASU's 66 games and was of the main factors for the Sun Devils run into the College World Series. She batted .350 with a team second-best 72 hits and 11 doubles. Brun also led the team in assists (168) and double plays turned (17).
