The Arizona State women's golf team shot a nine-over par 297 Saturday to move into second place at the PING/ASU Invitational, being held April 5-7 at Karsten Golf Course on the ASU campus.
Led by first-year head coach Mickey Yokoi, the 11th-ranked Sun Devils climbed two spots and trail tournament leader Tulsa (585) by just five strokes with a two-round total of 590 (293-297). Arizona (591), UCLA (593), New Mexico (597) and California (597) round out the top five teams heading into Sunday's final round.
On Sunday, the Sun Devils will be looking to capture their first win in the PING/ASU Invitational since 1999 when the team built a 20-stroke lead (884) to capture the tournament title and ASU All-American Grace Park took home individual medalist honors.
For the Sun Devils, sophomore Jimin Kang shot a one-over 73 on Saturday and is tied for fifth with a two-day total of 145 (72-73). Junior Melanie Hunt (75-73) and freshman Erin Tone (74-74) are both tied for 12th with two-day totals of 148. Juniors Blair O'Neal (72-83=155) and Ga?lle Truet (79-77=156) are tied for 48th and 56th, respectively, while ASU's individuals, freshman Josefin Gustafsson (76-80=156) and senior Lisa Meredith (80-76=156), are also tied for 56th.
Individually, Arizona's Lorena Ochoa and Tulsa's Stacy Prammanasudh are tied for first with two-round totals of five-under 139.
The PING/ASU Invitational concludes on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The Sun Devils will tee off at 8 a.m. from Holes 1-3.
