Finished with a 3-6 dual meet record, 1-6 vs. Pac-10 opponents ... placed 14th at the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas ... second-best NCAA finish in three years ... placed fifth at the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, Calif., its fourth top-five finish in five years ... at the NCAA Championships, senior Scott VonSchoff capped off his collegiate career with a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in which he swam the ninth-best time in ASU history (1:36.64)...VonSchoff also finished his career No. 7 on ASU's all-time 100 freestyle list (43.90, 2000) and member to three record-holding relay teams (400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 400 medley) ...VonSchoff was ASU's 'Win Doctor' throughout the season, placing first an astonishing 27 times in individual and relay competition ... included among those wins, VonSchoff began the season with 12 straight solo wins and six consecutive relay wins in dual meet competition ... at season's end VonSchoff was selected to compete in the World University Games ... while no swimmers set school records in 2001, freshman Ahmed Hussein moved to No. 3 on ASU's all-time 200 backstroke list with a 13th-place showing at the Pac-10 Championships (1:46.16) ... ASU's best NCAA individual finishes came in the 200 freestyle, where VonSchoff took ninth and freshman Gavin Meadows claimed 12th (1:36.64) ... ASU's top relay finish was a fourth-place showing by the 800 freestyle team of freshman Gavin Meadows, junior Bo West, sophomore Anders Lyrbring and VonSchoff (2:56.02), clocking the second-fastest time in the event in school history ... in all, ASU had seven individuals gather 15 All-America honors, including eight first-team awards ... senior diver Marc Briggs, a 2001 honorable mention All-America in the platform, completed his Sun Devil career with five school records: the 1-meter six-dive optionals (392.48), a new competitive format in 2000-01, 1-meter 11-dive standard (570.50), 3-meter six-dive (365.25), 3-meter 11-dive (632.25), platform (520.50) ... Briggs' 3-meter six-dive record eclipsed what had been the oldest existing ASU diving record, Dan Plant's 1982 effort of 358.15 ... at the Pac-10 Championships, ASU got its highest finish of the meet by the 800 freestyle relay team of Meadows, West, Lyrbring and VonSchoff, which finished second (6:28.28) ... Meadows was ASU's most dynamic individual performer at the conference meet, earning ASU's top solo finishes of fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:36.31) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:21.85) ... both of Meadows' aforementioned times stood at No. 7 on ASU's all-time lists at season's end ... earning Pac-10 All-Academic honors were West (first-team) and diver Gregg Helland (second-team).
