TEMPE, Ariz. - Both Arizona State's men's and women's swimming and diving teams debuted at No. 13 in the College Swimming Coaches' Association of America (CSCAA) poll, posted Monday.
The Sun Devil men earned 108 votes, while the women earned 102 votes. Stanford was No. 1 in both polls, pulling in 200 overall votes on the men's side and 199 votes on the women's side.
ASU's men's swimming and diving team returns five All-Americans from the team that placed 14th at the 2001 NCAA Championships, while the women's squad returns four All-Americans and adds reigning Olympic and World 200-meter breaststroke champion ?gnes Kov?cs among its list of exciting newcomers. Coming off a 21st place finish last season, the Sun Devil women will be seeking their first top-15 finish since 1995.
Both ASU squads are 2-0 on the young season. Last weekend, the Sun Devils defeated teams from the University of Wisconsin, which appeared at No. 15 in the men's poll and tied for 25th in the women's poll.
The next CSAA poll will be released November 15. The Sun Devil teams will be in action just after that, taking on UCLA and the SoCal All-Stars, Nov. 16 (2:00 p.m.), before meeting USC, Nov. 17. (12:00 p.m.). Both meets will be held at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz.
