Former All-American Christine Garner Joins ASU Volleyball Staff

June 21, 2000

TEMPE, Ariz.- Former Sun Devil volleyball star Christine Garner has been hired as an assistant volleyball coach, Arizona State head coach Patti Snyder-Park announced Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to bring one of our finest alums back to the program," Snyder-Park said. "Christine's knowledge, skill, enthusiasm and sense of humor make her a wonderful addition to our staff. With Christine and (assistant coach) Scott (Swanson), we will have an outstanding recruiting program and great on-court coaching."

Garner was one of the top players in Sun Devil volleyball history during her career from 1992-1995. A two-time All-American, she finished her career as Arizona State's all-time kills leader. In 1994 and 1995, she led ASU to NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, the Sun Devils' best NCAA tournament finishes ever. Garner was also an All-Pac-10 softball player and basketball team captain during her stellar career at Arizona State.

After her ASU career ended in 1995, Garner played recurrently with the U.S. National Team in tournaments including the 1995 Goodwill Games, 1997 Grand Prix and 1997 NORCECA tournament. She left the national team in 1997 and played two seasons with the European Professional Volleyball League in Turkey and Italy.

Garner returns to Tempe from the University of Toledo where she spent one season as an assistant coach. Garner has also been a successful coach at the club level with Glass City Club in Toledo and Arizona East Valley Juniors.
