TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State defensive tackle Jawell Samilton was selected as a winner of the 2000 National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics award.
The N4A Student-Athlete award is an honor presented to student athletes who have demonstrated the ability to overcome great personal academic and emotional odds in order to succeed at the collegiate level.
Samilton, who played two years at defensive tackle for the Sun Devils after transferring from a junior college, was selected by the national committee from among hundreds of other nominees. Chosen and nominated by ASU student-athlete advisors, he was one of only seven winners of the nation-wide award open to collegiate institutions stretching across all divisions.
While playing for Arizona State University, Samilton provided the Sun Devils' defense with depth and speed while maintaining a 2.14 academic GPA. He will be graduating this May with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Political Science and Family Studies.
Samilton will be recognized for his outstanding achievements at an annual conference honoring this year's winners on June 25th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
