TEMPE, Ariz. - A pair of Arizona State incoming freshmen both captured top-six finishes at the Junior Freestyle National Championships held at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D.
Frankie Saenz, a 1999 graduate of Tempe Marcos de Niza, placed sixth in the 132-pound division. He earned double All-America status after placing fourth last week in the Greco-Roman competition. Future teammate Nick Frost, a 1999 graduate of Tucson Salpointe, claimed third place at 165.
Saenz, a two-time Arizona high school state champion and the 1999 Arizona High School Outstanding Wrestler, fell by a technical fall (15-4, 5:16) to Cole Province of Claremore, Okla., in the fifth-place match.
Frost, a four-time Arizona state champion who won back-to-back titles at 152, decisioned Tyler Nixt of Greene, Iowa, 8-6 in the third-place match.
