Kilsyth Tops Sun Devils in Game Two Down Under

MELBOURNE, Australia - Host Kilsyth shot a blazing 57 percent (33-of-58) from the field in handing the Arizona State women's basketball team a 84-58 loss Wednesday night at the Kilsyth Sports Centre.

A member of the ABA (Australia's winter professional league), Kilsyth was the Sun Devils' second stop in a six-game tour of the country.

ASU sophomore Theresa Jantzen led all scorers for the second straight night with 23 points (on 9-of-12 shooting). She also paced all rebounders with nine boards, including six offensive.

The Sun Devils led 16-11 early on, with 12 of their first 16 points from Jantzen and junior guard Aubrey McFadyen. But the Cobras, leading 23-21 to start the second quarter, used a 9-2 run to work their way to a double-digit lead. ASU was held to just one field goal over a 5 and a half minute span ending late in the second quarter and scored seven points total.

Kilsyth widened the gap to 17 points (53-36) with 2:31 left in the third quarter. ASU came within 10 on a jumper by junior guard Natalie Tucker at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Cobras exploded for 24 points to the Sun Devils' 10 in the last eight minutes.

ASU outrebounded Kilsyth41-32, but missed 41 of 63 field goals and posted 19 offensive boards. The Cobras recorded 14 thefts and shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from three point range.

Senior guard Kitch Kitchen added nine points and a team-high four assists for ASU. Kilsyth was paced by Jo Hoey's 16 points, game-high five assists and team-high tying four rebounds.

ASU takes the court Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when it faces the Victoria All-Stars. The game is part of a triple-header with the Australian Women's National Team vs. Brazil and Men's National Team vs. Russia.
