TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State wrestler Eric Larkin (Tucson, Ariz.) was named to the Amateur Wrestling News Rookie Team of the Year, the publication announced this week.
A 133-pounder in 1998-99, Larkin was the highest-placing true freshman at the 1999 NCAA Championships, finishing fourth. He also became the first ASU freshman to garner All-America honors since 1993. Named ASU's "Most Outstanding Wrestler" last season, Larkin went 30-5 despite battling back from a rib cage injury suffered in December. He captured the Pac-10 title at 133 and paced the team with nine wins by major decision.
