Swimming and Diving Teams Defeat Utah

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated the University of Utah Saturday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The men (3--2) won 154-77 while the women (5-2-1) prevailed 160-74.

The Sun Devil men won six of the nine individual events and both relays (200 medley and 200 free). Winners on the men's side included freshman Jacob Copley (1000 free, 9:36.31), sophomore Matt Carter (200 free, 1:41.72), junior Pablo Abal (50 free, 20.95), sophomore Austin Paulsen (400 IM, 4:00.04), freshman Bo West (500 free, 4:36.87) and recent transfer Travis Leyenhorst (100 breast, 56.92).

The women were paced by freshmen Sarah Baham and Riley Mants, who both won two individual events. Baham took first in the 50 free (24.45) and the 100 fly (56.47) while Mants was victorious in the 400 IM (4:35.36) and the 100 free (53.66).

Both squads will be off next week before resuming action against Stanford on Sat., Jan. 23. The women's dual meet will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's meet to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on the campus of Arizona State University.
