Racing with the Devils: Caitlin Andrew

Jan. 8, 2008

Hey Devil fans!
Christmas is over, New Year's has come and gone yet we are still deep in winter training. After a short nine days at home to see the family and celebrate Christmas we are still going hard in the pool and the weight room. I enjoy the break from school and the chance to just focus on training. Our coaches like to take advantage of this extra time and come up with creative activities.

After morning practice last week we had the Devil Olympics. We were divided into four teams and to compete is at least two events each. The first event was water polo and I got to put my high school water polo skills to the test. We played 4 on 4 and our team took first! The next event was and under water relay where the players had to carry a huge rock across the bottom. We didn't do so well on that one, ended up last. Other events included a balloon toss, hanging from the 5 meter platform for as long as you could, diving and a game our coaches named "devil ball". We never did find out which team won, I guess I'll have to get back to you on that one.

We had our first meet of the New Year this past Saturday. We swam against not one or two teams, but three! Purdue, Oregon State and Washington all came down to swim. We managed to win all three meets but lacked some of the intensity that we had in the first half of the season. We have a week off before we head to Minnesota and then to California to swim Cal and Stanford.
Until next time,
Caitlin
