Player Bio: Riccardo Stewart



ASU: Finished his career as one of the top safeties in the Pac-10...three-time All-Pac-10 honoree who was a leader on ASU's revamped defense and the team...four-year starter...one of the most experienced Sun Devils, playing in 41 career games with 30 starts...averaged 6.9 tackles per game in his career.

2004: Earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors, the third all-league accolade of his career...played in nine games and started in eight of them...battled a shoulder injury most of the season...finished fourth on the team with 63 tackles (48 solo)...four of his tackles were for a loss...also broke up four passes...ranked 14th in the Pac-10 with 7.0 tackles per game...caused the game-clinching turnover in ASU's Sept. 11 win at Northwestern...put a bone-jarring hit on the NU tailback at the ASU 20 in the fourth quarter to stop the Wildcats' potential game-winning drive...finished with eight tackles at NU (six solo)...led the Sun Devils with a career-high 12 tackles Oct. 30 at Cal...also had a career-best 10 solo stops against the Golden Bears...scored the only safety of the season for the Sun Devils in a Nov. 6 win over Stanford...tied for the team lead with eight tackles in ASU's Nov. 13 win over Washington State...missed the Vitalis Sun Bowl after having shoulder surgery...earned praise for student-teaching at an elementary school during the season...earned preseason honorable-mention All-America honors by Street & Smith's...was also listed as the 20th-best safety in the country in the preseason by Lindy's.

2003: Played in 11 games with 10 starts...earned second-team All-Pac 10 honors...co-recipient of the Cecil Abono award along with Andrew Walter as the co-captains of the team...also received the Sun Devil Valor Award for the second straight year, an honor given to a great team player who has consistently displayed courage on and off the football field...finished second on the team in tackles with 84 stops, including 51 solo stops...ranked seventh in the Pac-10 with 7.6 tackles per game...led the team with three interceptions on the year...collected 6.5 tackles for a loss of 33 yards...also added 2.5 quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and a quarterback hurry...had four games in double figures for tackles...paced the team with a season-high 11 tackles Sept. 6 vs. Northern Arizona, including eight unassisted tackles...also added 1.5 tackles for loss vs. the Lumberjacks...led the team in tackles for the second straight game Sept. 13 against Utah State with 10, matching his season-high eight solo tackles...also turned in a sack and returned his first interception of the season 18 yards...forced one fumble and had a quarterback hurry in addition to collecting six tackles Sept. 20 at Iowa...intercepted his second pass of the year Sept. 27 at Oregon State en route to collecting nine tackles, including two TFLs...led the team and tied his season high with 11 tackles Oct. 4 vs. USC...also intercepted a pass in his second straight game against the Trojans...led the defense with 10 tackles Oct. 18 at North Carolina...left the Nov. 15 Washington State game with eight tackles (five solo) after suffering a neck injury...was recognized as a Hard Hat Player for his work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program last year.

2002: Played in 10 games, starting nine...missed the four other games due to a shoulder injury...earned honorable-mention All-Pac-10 honors...was the recipient of the Sun Devil Valor Award...finished third on the team in tackles with 83 (39 solo, 44 assisted)...had 11.5 tackles for loss totaling 33 yards...tallied three sacks...notched four games with double digits in tackles...had a big day vs. North Carolina, turning in 11 tackles, one sack and an interception...forced a fumble against San Diego State...had a 28-yard rush on a fake punt against UCF.

2001: Played in all 11 games, starting three...finished season fourth on team in tackles with 52 total, 32 unassisted...recovered one fumble against San Diego State...had season-high eight tackles at Stanford...moved to safety from wide receiver.

2000: Redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2000 graduate of Bonita High School...selected C.I.F. Defensive Player of the Year...listed as the No. 22 skill athlete in the nation by SuperPrep Magazine in its "All-American 308" listing...listed as the No. 25 player in the Farwest by SuperPrep...a member of the Tacoma News Tribune's "Western 100" listing...a preseason All-American by PrepStar Magazine...listed as the No. 8 wide receiver in the West by PrepStar...earned All-Valle Vista League, all-valley and all-state honors as a sophomore, junior and senior...had 55 receptions for 1,281 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior...added 180 tackles, two fumble recoveries and eight interceptions as a free safety .. also returned a punt, two interceptions and a kickoff for touchdowns...gained more than 2,000 all-purpose yards as a junior...had 31 catches for 670 yards and 10 touchdowns...also had 68 rushes for 680 yards and three touchdowns...as a junior, tallied 78 tackles on defense, including four tackles for loss and two interceptions...as a sophomore, had 25 catches for 525 yards, 75 tackles, three interceptions and one touchdown...lettered three times each in football, basketball and track and field...captained the football team for three seasons and the basketball team for two...most exciting experience in sports is winning the C.I.F. 3A State Championship in 1999 and being 14-0.

PERSONAL: Earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education in December of 2004...parents are Keith and Brenda...has an older sister, Takiesha McLaurin, and an older brother, Sherman McLaurin...enjoys working with elementary school kids...born Nov. 19, 1982, in Hattiesburg, Miss....full name is Riccardo Kirshun Stewart.
