Raymond Jordan, a two-time All-American at the University of Missouri, is entering his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Sun Devil wrestling program after completing his collegiate eligibility at UM last season. A four-year starter for the Tigers, including his first three at 184 pounds and his senior at 174, Jordan will be called upon to work with the heavier weights in the Arizona State program (184, 197 and heavyweight) while also continuing to train as a member of the Sunkist Kids organization.
"Raymond is a hard worker and earned many accolades at Missouri," Head Coach Shawn Charles said. "He will work with our wrestlers at 184, 197 and heavyweight and I know he will work hard to make sure those student-athletes are physically ready to compete and be well prepared to challenge for All-America honors and national titles. I am very happy to have someone like Raymond in our program because he is an all-around good guy with great character and determination to succeed. I was very excited when he told me he would be coming out to train with Sunkist and to help our program as well."
During his time in Columbia, Jordan collected a pair of All-America honors, first by placing fifth at 184 in his junior season before taking third after dropping down to 174 as a senior. One of only four MU wrestlers to earn All-America honors at two different weight classes in a career, Jordan was a four-time NCAA qualifier for the Tigers and also captured the 2007 Big XII title at 184 pounds.
His final two seasons with the program were his two most productive as he not only earned a pair of All-America honors, but he also became the 15th Tiger to win 100 or matches in a career. Jordan concluded his career with a record of 123-29, including a 34-5 record in his final season, with his career win total ranking as the fourth-best in the program's history. Away from the mats, Jordan was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as the group's president during his senior season. He graduated from MU in December 2008 with a degree in Personal Finance Planning.
A native of New Bern, N.C., Jordan was a three-time North Carolina state champion (2002-04) after taking third as a freshman. The Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 2003 and 2004 state tournaments, Jordan accumulated 200 wins in his prep career and also was selected as a high school All-American. While at New Bern High School, he also competed as a member of the track team.
