Player Bio: Justin Burks



ASU Career: Two-year starter at linebacker...defensive leader who made a huge impact in the middle as a senior...played in 24 career games with 23 starts...led the team in tackles as a senior and finished third as a junior...averaged 7.2 tackles per game in his ASU career...recorded three tackles in the 2005 East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 15 in San Francisco.

2004: Earned honorable-mention All-Pac-10 honors...played in all 12 games with 11 starts...led the Sun Devils with a career-high 95 tackles on the season...finished seventh in the Pac-10 with 7.9 tackles per game...forced a team-best two fumbles...was also third on the team with five pass breakups...recorded a career-high 13 tackles in ASU's Sept. 25 win over Oregon State and again in ASU's Dec. 31 victory over Purdue in the Vitalis Sun Bowl...tallied 11 tackles in two other contests...had a career-high seven assisted tackles vs. the Beavers...paced the team in tackles in four games...tied a career high with eight solo tackles at Oregon on Oct. 2...made his first career interception and returned it 28 yards in ASU's Oct. 23 victory over UCLA.

2003: Started all 12 games at linebacker...recorded 78 tackles and 46 solo tackles...both totals ranked third on the team...finished 24th in the Pac-10 with 6.5 tackles per game...tied for second on the team with three sacks for a loss of 18 yards...recorded sacks against Oregon State, USC and Washington State...tallied eight tackles for a loss of 29 yards...deflected three passes...had a season-high 11 tackles at UCLA on Oct. 25 (eight solo)...also tied his career best with two tackles for loss in that game...participated in spring drills after transferring from Cerritos...was recognized as a Hard Hat Player for his work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: A 2002 graduate of Cerritos Community College in Norwalk, Calif....rated as the No. 33 junior college transfer in the nation by SuperPrep Magazine...listed in PrepStar's Top 125 junior college players this year...selected first-team JC GridWire All-American...first-team All-California Community College Football Coaches Association...Cerritos played in the Strawberry Bowl game...first-team all-state Region IV...first-team All-Mission Conference Northern Division...collected 98 unassisted tackles, 67 tackle assists, (165 total stops), 10 quarterback hurries, five tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks and one pass deflection...a four-star recruit by Rivals...was coached by Frank Mazotta.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2000 graduate of Bellflower (Calif.) High School...was the team MVP...also earned all-conference and all-city honors...also lettered in baseball and basketball.

PERSONAL: Is pursuing a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies (sociology and education)...mother is Becky Burks (retired)...has a son, Justin Burks Jr....born April 28, 1982 in Long Beach, Calif....full name is Justin Emmett Burks.
