Park Named Women's Golf Player of Year

TEMPE, Ariz.-- Jack Nicklaus will present Arizona State freshman golfer Grace Park with her Rolex/Eleanor Dudley Player of the Year Award during the final round of The Memorial on Sunday, May 31 in Dublin, Ohio.

Park was named the womens collegiate player of the year at the May 23, 1998, National Golf Coaches Association awards banquet following the NCAA Championships. Park also finished the season as the nations top-ranked golfer in the MasterCard Collegiate Rankings. After winning the NCAA West Regional, she placed third at the NCAA Championships with a four-round score of 5-under par 283. Park also finished second in the third annual Golfstat Cup, which is awarded to the womens collegiate golfer with the lowest yearly scoring average. Parks season average of 73.12 was second to only Dukes Jenny Chuasiriporn (72.94).

In addition, Arizona State is the top-ranked womens team in the final edition of the MasterCard rankings. The poll, which is administered by the College Golf Foundation and compiled by Golfstat, is determined by a computerized point system formula, based on performance.

ASU senior Kellee Booth is ranked third in the final MasterCard rankings after placing fourth at the NCAA Championships last week.

The final edition of the mens rankings will be released on Wednesday, June 3, 1998.
