ASU will play 10 games between March 2 and April 20
Valley native Paige Carmichael was named assistant coach for the Sun Devil soccer program in July 2010.
A graduate of Glendale Mountain Ridge High School who went on to star at Texas A&M, Carmichael enters her first full-time collegiate coaching position.
"I'm really excited about Paige joining our staff," said Boyd. "She is used to being at the top and being very successful and so she brings the mentality of a top player. She is going to go out and work hard and will expect those around her to do the same. That is an element that will fit in well with our team and where they are right now."
"I am ready for this position and am thankful for the incredible opportunity to start my career under Kevin, a highly established and successful head coach at the collegiate level," offered Carmichael. "I have a lot of respect for Kevin and Blair and what they have done with the women's soccer program here at ASU and look forward to working with them and the team. I am excited to be a part of this program and am ready to bring everything I can to help the team reach their goals and work to compete for championships on a daily basis."
The former NSCAA Strength and Conditioning All-American most recently served as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at her alma mater where she assisted in the instruction of teams in lifting, conditioning and agility drills. Carmichael's other coaching appointments included serving as a student assistant for Texas A&M in 2008 while at the same time coaching a U12 girls team in College Station, Texas.
As a player, Carmichael had a decorated collegiate career at Texas A&M where she earned Big 12 All-Conference honors and was a two-time member of the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, including being named the tournament's defensive MVP in 2005.
Named team captain her junior and senior seasons, Carmichael played a big role in leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament four consecutive years, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2006. In addition, Texas A&M captured the Big 12 regular season title during each season of Carmichael's career, including the Big 12 Tournament championship in 2004 and 2005.
Carmichael, who also gained professional club experience playing for FC Indiana in 2009, earned her B.S. in sports management from Texas A&M in 2008.
