INDIANAPOLIS - The Arizona State University swimming and diving team has eight current and one former member competing in the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships this week held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Seniors Caitlin Andrew and CJ Nuess, along with Sun Devil alumnus Nick Brunelli led the way of the Sun Devil swimmers. Brunelli, a former four-time All-American for the Devils, finished third overall in the 100 meter freestyle, touching in at 49.04.
Andrew clocked in a solid lifetime best 56.03 to win the "C" final of the 100 free. She place 17th overall. Fellow senior Lindsey Brown also competed in the 100 free, finishing with a time of 57.60.
Nuess finished in the top 24 in three events. He won in the "B" Final with a time of 4:21.65. He placed ninth overall in the 400 meter IM. Nuess also placed 22nd in both the 200 meter breaststroke (2:18.60) and 1500 meter freestyle (15:48.21).
Sean Boyle and Ellis Schieman competed in the 200 meter butterfly at the National Championships. Boyle swam a lifetime time of best 2:03.60 while Schieman touched in at 2:19.58.
The Sun Devils that competed also enjoyed success in the relays. Brunelli and Boyle were members of a team that placed fifth overall in the 400 meter freestyle relay. Their team finished in 3:23.18. Andrew and Brown's 400 meter freestyle relay team finished seventh overall with a time of 3:48.41. Two other Sun Devils competed in the 400 freestyle relay as part of a "B" team. Ashley Evans and Sara McDaniel and their relay team finished 24th overall with a time of 3:44.77.
The ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships continue through Saturday Aug. 4th.
