TEMPE – Sun Devil Women’s Tennis opens the year participating in the three-day Tennessee Invite starting Friday, January 9 at Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Live stats will be available for the weekend, and a live stream can be found on playsight.

The three-day invite will feature Zlata Bartanusz, Karsyn Evans, Vivian Ovrootsky, Lily Taylor and Emilija Tverijonaite who will debut before the official season-opening doubleheader on Jan. 17 against UC Davis (11 a.m. MST) and Grand Canyon (4 p.m. MST) at Whiteman Tennis Center.
On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced its preseason coaches poll with the Sun Devils ranking third and earning one first-place vote and totaling 187 points. In the first season of competition in the Big 12 last year, the team finished 8-5 in conference play and ended with a quarterfinal finish in the Big 12 Tournament.
In the fall, Tverijonaite finished the fall ranked No. 42 by the ITA and went 13-5 in singles. Senior Vivian Ovrootsky went 12-3 in singles and was ranked No. 73 in the final ITA singles poll of the fall season.
Freshman Zlata Bartanusz won three matches last fall, and sophomore Lily Taylor won one singles match last semester. Junior Karsyn Evans will make her season debut this weekend after going 14-2 last year in singles.
