FORT WORTH, Texas – A match that was originally scheduled for Saturday but pushed back due to inclement weather, Sun Devil Women’s Tennis defeated TCU, 4-2, for its first road win of the season in the ITA Kickoff Weekend event on Monday at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Sun Devils will play No. 2 Texas A&M with a spot in the ITA Indoor Team National Championship on the line tomorrow at 12 p.m. MST in College Station, Texas at Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Maroon and Gold played its first Monday match in four years since opening the season against Northern Arizona on Jan. 17, 2022 in a 7-0 win. The team also moved to 5-0 against TCU all time. Both the Sun Devils and the Horned Frogs will play each other on February 27 in their Big 12 opener in Fort Worth.
It took all three matches to determine the doubles point, but the Sun Devils pulled it off against the Horned Frogs’ two ranked duos. Junior Karsyn Evans and sophomore Lily Taylor got their first ranked win by defeating #56 Raq Caballera Chica and Cristi Ramos, 6-3. Then, junior Emilija Tverijonaite and graduate Vivian Ovrootsky clinched the doubles point by beating #74 Victo Gomez O’Hayon and Yu-Chin, 6-4.
In singles play, #42 Emilija Tverijonaite continued her winning ways with her second dual win of the spring by winning her singles match in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-0. #76 Vivian Ovrootsky moved to 3-0 in duals this season by winning her singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Sara Svetac returned to the lineup and won her first match of the spring, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, which clinched the win for the Sun Devils.
