SAN DIEGO - In its opening match of ITA Kickoff Weekend, Sun Devil Men’s Tennis (7-0) knocked off No. 8 San Diego (2-1) 4-2 and pushed the record season-opening win streak to seven, while knocking off their ITA Kickoffs host school for the second time in three seasons. Friday's upset over the eighth-ranked Toreros is the team's highest upset since reinstatement and first top-15 upset since taking down No. 13 Michigan on February 15, 2024.
ASU will play for one of 16 spots in the ITA Indoor National Championships tomorrow, January 23, as it takes on Princeton, which defeated Miami 4-0 in the morning match at Hogan Tennis Center.
Despite dropping the doubles point for the first time this season, ASU won five of its first six sets and never looked back, as all four singles victories came in straight sets.
Friday's match was the team's first road win since April 20, 2024, when ASU defeated Washington 4-2.
