Knoxville. Tn. – In the first matches of the spring, Sun Devil Women’s Tennis gained valuable experience with three days of action at the Tennessee Invite at Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, facing Baylor, Vanderbilt and Tennessee.
Junior Emilija Tverijonaite went undefeated over the weekend, reaching 60 career wins as a Sun Devil in singles, going 3-0. On Friday, she defeated No. 17 Valerie Ray of Vanderbilt for the highest-ranked win of her career.
Freshman Zlata Bartanusz went 2-1 over the three days in singles, earning two, three-set wins over Baylor’s Gabrielle Villegas, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 and over Vanderbilt’s Trinetra Vijaykumar, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in a third-set tiebreaker. Freshman Sarang Lim won her first collegiate match in three sets over Baylor’s Neda Rahumkhani, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, Lily Taylor and Karsyn Evans went 2-1 over the weekend, earning wins over Tennessee’s Vanesa Suarez/Francesca Mattioli, 6-3, and Baylor’s Luna Ivkovic/Mu-Jie Tzeng, 6-4. A full list of results from the weekend is below.
The Sun Devils will officially open their season next Saturday against UC Davis at 11 a.m., then face Grand Canyon at 4 p.m. at Whiteman Tennis Center.
