TEMPE – Five Arizona State swimmers qualified for their respective national teams for the upcoming World Aquatics Championships that runs July 27 through August 3 in Singapore.
Patrick Sammon qualified for Team USA with a second-place finish in the 100m free final in 47.47 at the 2025 Toyota National Championships. After the meet, USA Swimming announced Jonny Kulow qualified for the 4x100 free relay who finished in fifth in the 100m free with a personal best time of 47.82.
Ilya Kharun achieved three golds at the Canadian swimming trials in the 50m, 100m and the 200m fly and will represent Canada in all three butterfly events in July. The two-time olympic medalist broke his own Canadian record in the 50 fly. In December, Kharun secured gold in the 200 fly in 1:48.24 at the World Aquatics Short Course Championships.
Joining Kharun for Canada, Filip Senc-Samardzic qualified for Canada’s 4x100 free relay with a fourth-place finish and personal best in 49.13 in the 100m freestyle. Representing Australia, Sun Devil alum David Schlicht qualified for the national team by winning the 200 IM in 1:58.10, a personal best.
On Wednesday, USA Swimming announced that Sun Devil Head Coach Herbie Behm would join Team USA as an assistant coach for the World Championships. In open water swimming, Dylan Gravely will swim the 5k and 10k races after qualifying earlier this year.
