BOULDER, Colo. – Karsyn Evans clinched the win for Sun Devil Women's Tennis (13-8, 8-5 Big 12) after nearly four hours over Colorado (8-13, 2-11 Big 12) 4-3 to cap off the regular season. Evans came back from down a set to win in three hard-fought sets. Arizona State will shift focus to the Big 12 Tournament beginning Wednesday in Waco, Texas.
Senior Patricija Spaka handled business with a swift straight sets win, 6-3, 6-0, to tie the match at one all for the Sun Devils, her second singles victory of the weekend and her 62nd win of her career. The win moves her into a tie for 34th all time in program history.
Colorado took a quick 2-1 lead with the win on court one, but Lily Taylor came back from a set down to win in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, to tie the match at two all.
Freshman Aiya Nupbay fought back from a set down to win a gritty tiebreaker in the second set 7-4 to force a third set. She then made quick work, winning six-straight games to secure the Sun Devil's third point of the match. Karin Altori battled after the second set, where she fell in the tiebreaker in the third set 8-6 where the Buffaloes tied the match.
Battling from a set down, Evans, the sophomore, dominated the second-set tiebreaker 7-1 to force the third set. The Texas native then got an early break point and never faltered the lead to win four-straight games and the match for the Sun Devils. It's her first three-set win this spring.
Colorado won the doubles point on courts one and two, while Taylor and Evans were winning their match 5-3 before the point was clinched.
