PHOENIX – The two-time defending team and individual champions came to play for the first two rounds of the Thunderbird Collegiate on Friday at Papago Golf Club. No. 5 Sun Devil Men's Golf finished with a 31-under 537 (262-275) to sit in first heading into round three while senior Preston Summerhays and Fifa Laopakdee shot 9-under 133's (63-70) for the co-lead heading into round three. 
 
The team ranks first in scoring average on the par 3's, par 4's, and the par 5's. They also boast the most eagles and birdies of any other team in the field. 
 
Preston Summerhays came out strong with a bogey-free 8-under round one to lead the field. His six birdies and eagle earned him his lowest round of the season so far. He finished his second round 1-under complete with three birdies and currently sits in the top five for scoring average on the par 4's.
 
After a bogey-free 5-under round one, Fifa Laopakdee continued his momentum into round two, shooting a 4-under 67 for a share of the lead with fellow Sun Devil, Preston Summerhays. Laopakdee is currently tied for third for lowest scoring average on the par-4's and the third most pars of the field. 
 
Junior Michael Mjaaseth came out swinging and went 6-under through six on the front nine in round one. He ultimately finished the round shooting a 6-under 65. Similar to Summerhays, Mjaaseth also shot a 1-under 70 in round two to head into round three tied for eighth place. 
 
Rounding out the starting five are Peer Wernicke and Connor Williams. Wernicke sits in 14th after shooting a 5-under 137 (69-68) and Williams is in 17th after shooting a 4-under 138 (68-70). 
 
The Thunderbird Collegiate continues with round three tomorrow morning with tee times starting at 7:00 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament is available on Scoreboard
