TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Wrestling struggled to find their footing on Sunday afternoon at Mullett Arena, falling to Northern Colorado in a tough 21-17 match.

The Sun Devils couldn't capitalize on an early 6-0 advantage following a forfeit at 125 pounds in the highly anticipated top-10 bout between No. 6 Stevo Poulin and No. 2 Richard Figueroa.

Jesse Vasquez and Shay Addison provided the scoring to stay in the match with gritty wins by decision. Vasquez took down Benji Alanis, 6-4, thanks to the help of a full two-minute period of ride time and Addison defeated AJ Heeg, 4-2.

The Bears began to pull away by taking four of five weight classes before rounding out the bout at heavyweight. Cohlton Schultz finished the match strong for with a dominant win by technical fall, 17-2. His 53rd career bonus-point win, Schultz is now eighth in team history for most bonus-point victories.

The Sun Devils will have a chance for redemption later this week as they head back on the road to face Iowa State on Friday, Feb. 7 in Ames (6 p.m. AZT), as they have five duals remaining in the regular season.

Made for March
The Sun Devils routinely make their living in the postseason. After a hot finish to their regular season in the spring, they stormed into the Gill Coliseum and captured yet another Pac-12 Championship title at the conference's final championships. It marked the 24th conference title in team history, the sixth under Jones' guidance and the fourth in the past five seasons.

With eight qualifiers competing at the NCAA Championships, the Sun Devils saw four individuals reach the podium. Figueroa etched his name in Sun Devil history with a finals win against Iowa's Drake Ayala, slamming the door on an unbelievable run in Kansas City in which he went 5-0 and dethroned two top-three seeds.

The 2023-24 season marked the team's fourth consecutive top-seven finish at the national tournament, while also earning four All-Americans for the fourth straight year.
