PHOENIX – Sun Devil Softball dropped its first road test of the season 3-0 at GCU on Tuesday evening at GCU Softball Stadium.
ASU (7-4) could not string enough offense together to get on the board in what turned into a pitcher's duel. They had runners on base in multiple innings but were 1-for-7 with runners on base. Samantha Swan and Ashleigh Mejia each had two hits as part of the team's seven total hits.
Meika Lauppe was solid in the circle for the Sun Devils, holding GCU (10-2) scoreless in her 4.1 innings in the circle. She allowed three hits and struck out two with zero walks.
The Sun Devils' best chance came in the third inning when they loaded the bases with two outs, but they were unable to find the clutch hit to take the lead. GCU broke the tie with a solo home run from Makaiya Gomez in the fourth. They added two more with a two-out double from Sydney McCray in the fifth.
