TEMPE – Sun Devil Softball split two run-rule games on Friday night at Farrington Stadium during the second day of the Littlewood Classic. After struggling through a 10-1 loss to North Dakota in the first game of the evening, the Sun Devils answered with an 11-0 win over Weber State.

Kelsey Hall started the party early in game two for the Sun Devils in the bottom of the first with a base hit to left field. After scoring only one run against North Dakota, the Sun Devils came roaring back to life, plating three runs in the first and four more in the second.

Nehanda Lewis capped the offensive outburst with a homer to deep left-center field in the bottom of the fourth. Her first career home run gave her four RBIs in the game and put the game out of reach for Weber State.

Meika Lauppe carried over from her four shutout innings against Oregon on Thursday night with another stellar performance. Notching her first career shutout while only allowing two hits and striking out eight in five innings.

Tanya Windle hit her third home run of the season as she and Hall finished the game with two hits and two RBIs apiece.

The fast start against Weber State was needed after the Sun Devils came out flat in the first game of the day and dropped a 10-1 decision to North Dakota. Windle drove in the only ASU run of the game with a single in the fifth inning.

Ashleigh Mejia posted a pair of hits for her first multi-hit game of the season. The team had six hits overall but went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position while leaving nine runners on base.

  • Nehanda Lewis recorded her first career home run after transferring from UCF in the offseason.

Head Coach Megan Bartlett:
On the teams approaching heading into Weber St.:

"We had a colorful talk in between games. We have a talented group of players who play with moxie and fight together. They're gonna have some big wins this year, but they're gonna have some growing pain, and North Dakota was certainly one of them."

On Meika Lauppe's Shutout performance:
"She shut the door against Oregon last night and came in tonight with another shutout performance. We knew she always threw hard. She creates force quickly and throws a heavy ball. She got a lot of time as a freshman, which was a blessing in disguise. We knew once her confidence got in line with her skillset, we were gonna have something real with Meika. She can go the distance in games, and so proud of her."
