LAWRENCE, Kan. – A 33-percent shooting performance and 20 turnovers that led to 20 points for the opposition were the principal culprits in the Sun Devil women's basketball team's 75-52 loss at Kansas on Thursday night.

Tyi Skinner scored 18 points and hit a game-high four 3-pointers to lead the Sun Devils (8-10, 2-4 Big 12), who fought back from a 21-point deficit in the first half to close within nine points late in the third quarter.

Jyah LoVett (10 points), Makayla Moore (season-high nine points) and Jalyn Brown (seven points) combined with Skinner to score 44 of ASU's 52 points.

The Sun Devils were without an important part of their offensive arsenal on Thursday as starting guard Kennedy Fauntleroy (10.4 ppg in Big 12 games) had to sit out the contest due to an altercation in ASU's game vs. Baylor last Saturday.

Kansas (12-5, 2-4 Big 12) edged the Sun Devils on the glass, 37-36. Jazion Jackson (team-high seven rebounds) and Nevaeh Parkinson (six rebounds) were ASU's top rebounders. The Sun Devils also had a quartet of players – LoVett, Brown, Moore and Kennedy Basham – who each pulled down four boards. Basham also had a game-high three blocks, the 10th time this season she has had multiple blocks in a game.

The Jayhawks (54 percent) more than doubled ASU (25 percent) in shooting percentage in the first quarter to jump out to a 20-9 lead.

After a Kansas free throw extended its lead to 21-9 at the start of the second quarter, Skinner responded with consecutive 3-pointers to quickly cut Kansas' lead in half, 21-15.

The Jayhawks scored the next four point to once again take a double-digit lead. Parkinson's hoop was able to cut it back down to eight before Kansas closed the half on a 16-6 run to take an 18-point lead after 20 minutes of play. The Jayhawks went up by 21 twice during the scoring run, but 3-pointers by Skinner and LoVett were able to keep the deficit under 20 points at the half.

With ASU trailing 46-28 with 3:33 left in the third quarter, Skinner (two free throws and a 3-pointer) and Moore (pair of triples) teamed up to help the Sun Devils score 11 of the next 13 points and cut Kansas' lead to nine points after Moore's 3-pointer with 1:44 left.

The momentum ASU worked so hard to wrestle away from Kansas on its home floor was reclaimed by the Jayhawks as they were able to score the ensuing four points before the third quarter horn to take a 13-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

Moore's 3-point play to open the final frame and get ASU back within 10 was unable to ignite any kind of spark as the Jayhawks slowly pulled away with a 14-1 run over the next five-plus minutes to clinch the win.

The Sun Devils return to action on Sunday (12 p.m. MST) when they play at No. 11 Kansas State. The game can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on KDUS AM 1060.
