Greensboro, N.C, – No. 2/13 Sun Devil Swim and Dive showed off their speed at the NC State midseason invite Thursday night, breaking four school records and collecting four wins in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Leading off the night in the 200 free relay, Caroline Bentz, Miriam Sheehan, Erin Milligan and Julia Ullmann broke the school record, clocking in a 1:27.71 NCAA "A' cut time. ASU's B group of Elli Straume, Indigo Armon, Mary Brinker and Iza Adame finished 8th in 1:30.55. Milligan broke the school record recording a 21.87 50 split.
To follow up the race, the men's 200 free relay of Ilya Kharun, Tommy Palmer, Patrick Sammon and Jonny Kulow broke the school record by 0.02 seconds, clocking in a sub-1:14 time of 1:13.93. ASU's B relay team. Christian Osterndorf, Quin Seider, Tolu Young and Tiago Behar finished fourth in 1:16.49.
Alexa Reyna won the 500 free final clocking in a time of 4:41.32, improving her prelims time by 3.28 seconds. Charli Brown claimed third place in 4:43.68, improving on her personal best. Daniel Matheson was the top Sun Devil in the 500 free, finishing in 4th in 4:17.37 which was an NCAA 'B' cut time.
In the 200 IM, Sonia Vaishnani registered an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:58.90 which is also a season-best coming in third in the final. On the men's side, Kharun was the top men's finisher finishing in an NCAA 'B' cut of 1:43.77.
In the 50 free, Bentz re-broke the record set by Milligan earlier this evening, finishing second with a time of 21.80. Kulow won the final finishing in 18.78, setting a season-best.
To cap off the night in the 400 medley relay, Miriam Sheehan, Iza Adame, Julia Ullmann and Caroline Bentz placed third setting an NCAA 'B' cut time in 3:32.37. For the men, Lucien Vergnes, Andy Dobrozanski, Kharun and Kulow won the final with an NCAA 'A' cut time of 3:02.18.
Morning Prelims:
Kicking off the invite, Deniz Ertan had the top time in the 500 free finishing in 4:43.88. Teammate Alexa Reyna won her respective heat in 4:44.60 to finish second in morning prelims.
In the 200 IM, the Sun Devil women had five of the top-10 times in the morning. Sonia Vaishnani had the top time for the Devils in 1:59.45, followed by Charli Brown at 1:59.52 and Zoe Summar swimming at 1:59.55.
