Stanford, Calif. - Sun Devil Women's Golf put together another impressive finish as the Stanford Intercollegiate came to a close on Sunday.
Arizona State (+8/860) ended in fifth place at the 19-team event hosted at Stanford Golf Course. Six of the Top-20 ranked teams in the country competed for one of the most prestigious titles of the Fall. It was a total team effort that led the Maroon & Gold to another Top-5 team finish at a marquee event.
Leading the way for the Sun Devils was junior Beth Coulter, who continues to deliver for her team. Coulter finished tied for fifth, recording her third Top-10 finish of the Fall and third career Top-5 result. Coulter (-6/207) is proving to be one of the top golfers in the nation, finishing only five strokes back of individual champion Jasmine Koo (-11/202) from USC. Joining Coulter in the Top-20 was freshman Isla McDonald-O'Brien, who came through for ASU once again. She finished even on the tournament (213) which earned her a tie for 18th, her second consecutive Top-20 finish.
Key contributions from the entire lineup were a key reason why Arizona State was able to secure another high finish. This includes Paula Schulz-Hanssen, who found herself in a tie for 26nd after another consistent effort. Senior Grace Summerhays improved her score for the second straight day, shooting a 73 (+2) to repeat a move up the leaderboard. The highlight of the weekend came when Summerhays recorded her fourth eagle of the season on the par-five 12th hole. The Sun Devils fifth-place finish is even more impressive considering the circumstances. ASU played without redshirt sophomore Patience Rhodes, who withdrew prior to the event due to injury. Despite missing the nation's No. 19-ranked golfer, ASU still finished ahead of four Top-25 teams.
The Maroon and Gold were able to take advantage of par three and par four scoring. ASU tied Texas for the lowest par three scoring average and were in the Top-3 of par four scoring. Beth Coulter was also in the Top-10 of both categories individually. Following a week off, Coach Farr-Kaye's team is back in action Oct. 28-30 at the Nanea Invitational in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Play for her
The Stanford Intercollegiate once again supported PlayForHer as part of an initiative to help raise funds in support of breast cancer research. This year's tournament was dedicated to Arizona State Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye and her late sister and fellow Sun Devil Women's Golfer, Heather Farr. Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23 and lost her battle five years later. Supporters can help raise money by pledging to sponsor each birdie your favorite team makes, or even better, the entire field. In 2023, there were 763 total birdies made, and on average, each team made 40 birdies. USC finished with the most birdies and received an award for helping make an impact through the game of golf. Consider supporting and learn more about the cause HERE.
Quotables
"I am so proud of this team finishing fifth in a great field competing with only four players," Coach Farr-Kaye remarked. "What a great week for Beth Coulter! Our team has great energy and resilience and it really showed this week. We look forward to having Patience back in the lineup for our final tournament of the fall in Hawaii next week."
"It feels pretty good that a couple of Top-10 finishes this fall. It feels like I belong here," Coulter reflected after the round. "Today, I couldn't get the putts to drop, but I'm really happy my game is heading in the right direction. It was a tough golf course with tough competition and I'm really happy about my finish."

The course
The Stanford Golf Course, located in the foothills above the Stanford University campus, is home to the Stanford Men's and Women's Golf teams. The Par 71, 6,278-yard course has hosted several significant events, including the Stanford Invitational, Peg Barnard Intercollegiate, Pac-10/12 Championships, NCAA Western Regional, and the Women's NCAA Championships, USGA Junior Amateur Qualifying, and U.S. Open Qualifying. The tournament is hosted by former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, an avid golfer and Stanford Graduate School of Business faculty member. Four of the five Sun Devils have competed in at least one collegiate event at the Stanford Golf Course at the 2022 or 2023 Stanford Intercollegiate.
History at Stanford Intercollegiate
The Sun Devils made their 12th appearance at the Stanford Intercollegiate, first competing at the event in 1980. This is the eighth time in the last nine editions that Arizona State was a part of the field. ASU has enjoyed its fair share of success at Stanford, winning the team title six times, most recently in 2019. Arizona State (-10/842) earned its ninth title in the Missy Farr-Kaye era, putting together their eighth-lowest score vs. par over 54 holes in school history.
The Sun Devils were also victorious at the 2009, 2007, 2004, 1995, and 1982 Stanford Intercollegiate. A pair of Sun Devil legends earned individual titles at the Stanford Intercollegiate, as Heather Bowie took home the individual crown in 1995 while Brandie Burton was the champion of the 1989 event.

It will be the 12th time in the past 13 years that Sun Devil Women's Golf has had the opportunity to compete at an event in Hawaii. Arizona State wraps up the Fall and will have a three-month break before resuming play in the Spring.
