TEMPE – Sun Devil soccer has finalized the additions to the program's roster ahead of the 2024 season. ASU head coach Graham Winkworth has added Grace Gillard, Oona Hartman, Maddie Shafer, Cameron Valladares, and Megan Wilson.
The five will join the trio of Kierra Blundell, Addison Haws, and Ella Kettles, who were announced in the fall.
Grace Gillard /// Defender /// Bedford, England /// Harlington Upper School /// Syracuse
QUOTING WINKWORTH
"Grace is a ball-playing center-back who fits perfectly into our style of play. Losing our captain from last season was tough, but Grace brings both quality and experience to this roster, where we hope she will impact immediately. Her time as captain of England U19, Arsenal U21 and Syracuse will hopefully be on show from day one."
Oona Hartman /// Midfielder/Forward /// Los Angeles, Calif. /// Marlborough School /// LA Breakers
QUOTING WINKWORTH
"Oona is really technically good on the ball. She glides on the dribble and is capable of opening up the opposition with creative passes. She has also shown a lot of versatility through the recruitment process by playing multiple roles."
Maddie Shafer /// Midfielder/Forward /// Flagstaff, Ariz. /// Flagstaff High School /// Northern Arizona
QUOTING WINKWORTH
"I am excited to bring Maddie to ASU from NAU. I want to look at her in preseason, playing multiple roles. She has a wand of a left foot and is also a dead ball specialist, where she scored some wonder goals for her last school."
Megan Sofield /// Forward /// Chorley, England /// Saint Michael's High School /// Manchester United
QUOTING WINKWORTH
"Meg is very similar to KB in the way she plays. She is ultra-competitive and is a real goal threat. She is not afraid to mix it up but also shows the technical ability to be crafty with the ball. She loves to look behind opposing defenders but is able to link the play with the midfield as well."
Cameron Valladares /// Forward /// Woodland Hills, California /// Westlake High School /// Arizona
QUOTING WINKWORTH
"It has been a delight to have Cam with us this spring. Her pace gives us a new dimension in the attacking part of the pitch, and she loves to get in behind. This ability will not only give her opportunities to score for us but will also provide the players around her with more space to work."
The five will join the trio of Kierra Blundell, Addison Haws, and Ella Kettles, who were announced in the fall.
