SAN DIEGO – Sun Devil softball split a doubleheader with San Diego on Tuesday at the USD Softball Complex. Arizona State dropped the opener 7-4 before coming back to take the second game 3-2 in nine innings.

ASU leaves the day at 18-15 on the season and with eight days off before returning to action.

GAME 1: San Diego 7, Arizona State 4
The Sun Devils twice held the lead in the opener before watching San Diego rally for the win. Sara Kinch got ASU on the board with a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, Kayla Lissy tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and then Kinch put the Sun Devils back in front with a double that made it 4-3. The Toreros countered with three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth for the win.

Kinch finished the dame 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kelsey Hall was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

GAME 2: Arizona State 3, San Diego 2 (9 innings)
ASU once again jumped out to a 2-0 lead, starting with a sac fly from Hall in the first inning. As the zeros piled up, the Sun Devils made it 2-0 in te sixth when Lissy scored from second in an infield single from Tanya Windle.

San Diego rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra inning. After neither team scored in the eighth, Alesia Denby drove home Audrey LeClair for the decisive run in the ASU ninth.

Marissa Schuld went all nine in the circle for the Sun Devils, working around 10 hits allowed to earn her fourth win of the season. She had three strikeouts.

Jada Lewis opened the game with a triple, and Libby Walsh also had a hit for ASU.

ASU returns to Pac-12 play on April 5 when they open a three-game series at Stanford.
