San Jose, Calif – Leading wire-to-wire, No. 9 Sun Devil Water Polo secured its first MPSF win with a 15-10 result over No. 17 San Jose State (9-10, 0-3 MPSF) Saturday afternoon in San Jose, making it the sixth straight win for the Sun Devils, tied for the longest winning streak this year.
Arizona State (20-4, 1-1 MPSF) reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2017, making it the seventh time in program history the team has achieved the mark.
For the 11th time this year, Luca Petovary scored 5+ goals in a game, netting six and setting another record in the process. This time, becoming the program's all-time leading scorer with 238 goals in a Sun Devil career. Earlier this season, she became the first Sun Devil to tally 100+ goals in a season, becoming the record holder for most goals by a Sun Devil in a season. She also accounted for three assists for nine points in the win.
Millie Quin shined in the maroon & gold on Saturday, scoring three goals and her seventh hat-trick of the year. She also tallied two field blocks and two steals in the process. Zoe Frangieh tallied two goals on the day, for her fourth multi-goal game of the year, her second in three games.
Graduate Lara Kiss was a defensive force, accounting for three steals and three field blocks, her second such game this year with three apiece. Kiss also accounted for three assists in the win, her sixth game this year with 3+ assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Luca Petovary scored two unanswered goals for the Sun Devils to open the game in a 30-second span, giving ASU a 2-0 lead. After the Spartans scored two of their own, Petovary netted a hat-trick in the first quarter, giving the Sun Devils a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
- Quin scored her first goal halfway through the second quarter to extend the lead back to two for the Sun Devils. Then, a Zoe Frangieh goal forced a Spartan timeout pitting the Sun Devils ahead by three. Quin then found the back of the net for a second time giving ASU a 6-2 lead.
- Both sides traded a goal near the end of the first half where Emily Van Zonneveld gave the Sun Devils a 7-3 lead at halftime.
- San Jose State struck first coming out of the break, cutting the lead to three. However, Petovary scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game to bring ASU's lead to five goals, leading 9-4. San Jose State scored before the end of the third quarter, making it 9-5.
- The final frame started fierce with five goals combined on both sides, The Sun Devils each got goals from Quin, Sophie Shorter-Robinson and Frangieh to hold a 12-7 lead at the 6:34 mark.
- Petovary answered back with her sixth goal on a 6-on-5 advantage after a Spartan goal, giving ASU a 13-8 lead. Abby Begg and Alba Olivé Martí scored to secure the Sun Devils' 20th win of the season, and their first conference victory.
