TEMPE - Sun Devil Women's Golf will participate in the Silverado Showdown running April 3-5 at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California.
For the third consecutive season, No. 9 Arizona State will cap their regular season at this loaded event, featuring several highly-ranked teams and individuals. A strong field will be nothing new for Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's battle-tested unit, as they look to continue building upon their momentum gained in the Spring. Oregon and Colorado co-host this three-day event, which begins for the Sun Devils tomorrow at 8 AM MST on the first hole. Track the action via Golfstat live scoring at the following link.
COACH'S CORNER
"We want to maintain the level of play we have established this Spring and finish the regular season strong," Coach Farr-Kaye remarked. "This golf course and the conditions can present unique challenges that will help get us ready for postseason play."
"I am looking forward to seeing how the team steps up without Ashley," Coach Farr-Kaye added. "This a big opportunity for our five to prove themselves as we head down the stretch. They continue to push each other and handle the competition the right way."
LAST TIME OUT
Sun Devil Women's Golf finished second at the 2023 PING/ASU Invitational hosted at Papago Golf Club. In the 50th edition of the event, Sun Devils could be found all over the top of the leaderboard, as four of the Top-11 finishers were representatives of the Maroon & Gold. No. 11 Arizona State (-4/860) finished only behind No. 23 Northwestern for the team title, as both squads beat out three Top-10 teams. For Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team, it is yet another building block in what has been a fantastic Spring season.
Ashley Menne led the way for the Sun Devils, earning a tie for sixth place, her second straight Top-10 finish at the PING/ASU Invitational. She fired her second consecutive round under par (-1/71) to secure a spot in the Top-10. Not far behind her was Grace Summerhays, who made a late push that allowed her to shoot up the leaderboard. She elevated 34 spots by the end of the day, climbing into the Top-10 as she tied for ninth. Summerhays' 67 (-5) was the best round of any golfer today. Freshmen duo Beth Coulter and Paula Schulz-Hanssen showed no effects from the pressure of their first home tournament, as they each finished in a tie for 11th.
THE COMPETITION
According to Golfweek/Sagarin metrics, Arizona State has faced the fourth-toughest schedule in the country to this point of the season. Despite the difficult schedule, ASU boasts a 71-3-2 head-ot-head record. The competition at the Silverado Showdown will only help their strength of schedule, as Arizona State is one of three Top-10 and eight Top-25 teams heading to Napa this week. In total, 11 of the Top-40 teams in the nation will be in the field. All 17 teams are ranked inside the latest Golfstat Top-100.

THE LINEUP
Arizona State boasts one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the country, making qualifying for the lineup extremely competitive. That is because of golfers like Grace Summerhays, who earned the coveted No. 1 spot and will tee-off last tomorrow. Paula Schulz-Hanssen hasn't been playing like a freshman as of late, as she looks to continue her strong play out of the No. 2 spot. She is followed by another impressive freshman, as Beth Coulter has been consistent throughout the year and occupies the No. 3 spot. Calynne Rosholt is among the most decorated No. 4 options in the country, a indicator of the depth of the lineup. Amanda Linner earns a spot back in the lineup after competing as an individual in the last tournament.

In 2022, Senior Alessandra Fanali (-7/209) could not have asked for a better result in the final regular season tournament of her career, as she claimed an impressive victory at the Silverado Showdown by three strokes. The deficit did not faze her, as she quickly made it up and then some, cruising past the competition by a comfortable margin. By carding a 69 (-3) in the final round, Fanali was one of only two golfers to hit the 60's twice this week.
As a team, Arizona State had by far their best round of the tournament on the final day last year, moving up into a tie for seventh in the 16-team event. In 2021, the team finished tied for fourth behind Fanali's second-place effort. The other appearance in the Silverado Showdown for the Sun Devils came back in 2018.
