The spring season came to an end for Sun Devil Triathlon on Saturday at The Gateway Triathlon Cup. A total of nine Sun Devils competed in two different races in St. Peters, Mo.
In the Human Powered Health NTDR race, freshman Madison Judas had a solid fifth-place finish. She was second out of the water by completing her swim in 10 minutes and 43 seconds. Judas then went 36:24 on the bike and finished the run in 22:03 for a total time of 1:10:32.
The America's Cup St. Peter's Elite race -- won by Tokyo 2021 US Olympic Bronze medalist Katie Zaferes -- saw rain delays and strong winds to make for a tough day.
Amber Schlebusch led the Sun Devils in the field with a ninth-place result at 1:03:02. She used strong performances in the bike (32:40) and run (18:22) to finish in the top 10.
Faith Dasso turned her solid swim and bike times into a total time of 1:04:41 to finish 16th. Heidi Jurankova was consistent in all three disciplines, coming away with a 17th-place finish at 1:05.08. A great all-around effort from Sophomore Camille Buchanan helped her place 23rd at 1:06:25.
Naomi Ruff experienced her first pro race and finished 30th. Liberty Ricca placed 34th, with Alexe Coursol right behind in 35th. Evan Welch rounded out the ASU contingent by placing 38th.
"I am very proud of the fight the team showed today," ASU head coach Cliff English commented. "It was an excellent experience for them to be exposed to this world-class field and a huge opportunity for personal growth."
