SAN FRANCISCO – Senior Hannah Scharf and junior Emily White from Sun Devil Gymnastics were named to the inaugural Pac-12 Preseason Watchlist, as announced by the conference on Monday.
The lists include 12 returning Pac-12 standouts and four newcomers who are set to make an immediate impact in 2023. Scharf and White are Arizona State's representatives on the list. For the full list, head to the Pac-12's release.
Scharf is coming off of another All-American season after earning WCGA Regular Season All-Around honors in the all-around, where she made second team. The Canadian native had 11 event titles on the season. She competed in the all-around in every meet last season and scored below a 9.800 just five times. She had 17 scores of 9.9-plus and reached a career-high 9.950 on beam. In addition to her All-America nod, she also received honors from the Pac-12, as she was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in the all-around, her second season in row doing so. During the season, she was the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-12 Coaches Choice of the Week in two different weeks.
White also had a strong year for the Gym Devils in 2022. She competed in the all-around alongside Scharf in all but three of the meets throughout the season. Against UCLA, she scored a 39.600 in all-around competition, which was not only an event title under her belt, but also the 21st highest all-around score in program history. For that effort, she was the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week. She had seven 9.900s or better throughout the season while clinching new career highs in vault, bars and floor. She had five event titles, including two on beam.
The team is set to compete in Maroon and Gold intrasquad on Monday at 6:30 p.m. MST. The 2023 season will begin with the Super 16 meet in Las Vegas on January 7, competing against BYU, Cal and Iowa at 1 p.m. MST.
