TUCSON - Arizona State closed out the final day of the University of Arizona's Willie Williams Classic Saturday afternoon . The Sun Devils celebrated five new personal records and 10 top-3 finishes on the day. Dylan James (triple jump) and Jorinde van Klinken (discus), both of whom joined ASU this spring, each won their events. In total, 17 new personal-best marks were made this weekend.
"In field events we definitely showed a presence but on the track we have a lot of work to do with execution and learning how to compete," head coach Dion Miller said. "Obviously it's the first meet and the kids had an opportunity to get better so we have to go back to the drawing board and work on some things, especially on the track but overall I think I saw some really good things in the field events."
James kicked day two of the meet off with a 15.54m/51' foot leap in the triple jump on his fourth attempt, a collegiate PR for the first-year Sun Devil (James went 15.84m in 2019). James comfortably won the event, beating out Northern Arizona's Mitchel Effing by almost two feet.
Van Klinken threw disc for the first time in her collegiate career, winning (57.74m/189' 5") by a three-foot margin over Rachel Dincoff.

Due to a schedule issue, ASU won't compete at San Diego State's Aztec Invitational as previously announced. The Sun Devils are back in action April 3 at Grand Canyon in Phoenix.
